Bigger is not always better! Although a brand new 52-inch plasma TV would be high up on the wish list of many householders, the reality is that a television set of this size would not always fit in many of the nations' homes.
Before we go any further we will look at how to measure television screen size. Although this sounds obvious, many people go about it incorrectly. The correct way is to measure DIAGONALLY from the bottom left to the top right corner of the screen. Only measure the viewable (glass) area. This means that a 52-inch screen is not 52 inches wide, as many people mistakenly believe.
Tv Stands For Flat Screens
There are two main points to consider when making your purchase:
How much available space do you have? Measure the height, width and depth available for the item. You will require at least two inches on either side for ventilation and cables, so bear this in mind and take the measurements with you to the store. It is amazing how many people buy a TV that will not fit in their television cabinet!
With the above in mind, is it worth buying a new TV stand to accommodate your new television set? Some packages even come with a free stand. A large, flat-panel TV will make for much better viewing when watched head-on and eye-level height, so think about re-arranging furniture accordingly.
What is the size of your room? That 52-inch widescreen set will look out of place in a small bedroom, in the same way that a small set will not fit in well in a cavernous living area.
A television can also make for uncomfortable viewing if you are sitting too close to it. A good rule of thumb is to be at least eight feet away from a 32-inch TV screen, and slightly more for a larger screen, slightly less for a smaller screen. This should be further increased for the better picture quality of HD TV sets.
In summary, bigger IS better - but only if it works with your available space. Consider your requirements and do your homework - and you will be rewarded with a much better viewing experience in the long-run.
